Brief Introduction of Dron-me Association for Education and Eradication of Poverty

Dron-me Association for Education and Eradication of Poverty (abbreviated form of name is “Dorn-me”) is a nongovernmental organization dedicated to supporting poor education in the rural minority areas. This Association was founded in June 2006. It was mainly Sang-drok Scholarship. Sang-Drok scholarship is established in order to improve the development of minority education. It offered subsidies in the schools in Jian tsa area successively.
Sang-drok living Buddha has broadened the scope of aiding targets, mobilized community, and organized the power of all the sectors of community for the purpose of intensifying the efforts to aid. In the basis of Sang-Drok scholarship, he founded “Dron-me Association for Education and Eradication of Poverty”.  Subsequent to the establishment of Dorn-me, the number of members who registered voluntarily and provide assistance has reached at 553 people, total amount of assistance is 310000RMB, 19 volunteers.

Dorn-me was the first one in Jian tsa Tan township to implement projects regarding education and supporting poverty. Jiantsa Tan Township is located in the northern west part of Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and is on the edge of southern part of Qinghai High plateau. It is a pure nomadic area where pure Tibetan communities are residing. Jian tsa Tan is a place of humble environmental condition, inconvenient transportation & communication, and underdeveloped economic civilization. Its education is left far behind the average level of minority education.   Jian tsa County has been selected as poverty-stricken county by the State, while Jiantsa Tan Township is the only impoverished township over the county. Total population of the township is 7560, of which, indigent population accounts for over 90%, while 89% of the total population is illiterate; per-capita income is less than 600 RMB. School enrollment rate is significantly low. Within the 60 years since the National Liberation, Jiantsa Tan Township only has 4 people, who graduated from colleges and schools with Da-zhuan & Zhong zhuan degrees, have become governmental official workers.

Dorn-me supports all sectors such as education, poverty, and health in Jian tsa Tan Township with its full efforts in accordance with local impoverished conditions. Dorn-me have inputted a large amount of man power, material, and capital to the poverty-relief work in Jiatsa Tan Township. Hitherto, accumulation number of supported students is 9, funds amount is 37500 RMB; number of primary-school students assisted is  285 (person-time), total amount of funds is 25850 RMB; number of indigent households which have received assistance is 408, provided with microcredit in amount of over 900,000 RMB; 1 village doctor has been provided training, which required 5000 RMB; in addition, Dorn-me has established human drinking water project in the Fu-he School as well as taken responsibility of paying salaries for those school employees including teachers, students, and other workers, and provided subsidies to students’ living expenses, a total of 46,500RMB has been funded. 

Projects that are currently under the preparation and design: first, relevant programs for school, 1) “Small Ge-shi”--- knowledge contest (questions and answers) as well as debates that will be held twice a year; 2)  “ Small Inventor＂-- an activity of “self-done activity”, which takes place once per year; 3) “Reading Activity”—including reading, recitation, reading aloud, and transcription of various notable literatures as well as stories, which will be held twice a year; 4) “Encyclopedia Green World”---- to purchase various books, and establish a reading room; 5) “Silent World” –of which mission is to build students and parents’ concept of environmental protection, and conduct various activities on environmental protection.
Second, Socio-projects: 1) “Loving  Mother” – to spread the concept of gender equality, eliminate discrimination to urge people to pay their significant attention to the women’s social status as well as to women’s health and life”.  2) “One is Never too Old to Learn”---To invite well-known people such as scholars and living Buddha to explain all kinds of knowledge such as Buddhist ethics and social humanities, etc. that are beneficial to both human spiritual and material world. 3) “Raising Poverty-relief Loan Funds Project” ; 4) to establish the Branch of Dron-me Association for Education and Eradication of Poverty; 5) Project of Conducting Rural Doctors Training and Equipping Medical Equipments; 6) Office Space and Supporting facilities for Dron-me Association for Education and Eradication of Poverty;

Mission of the Association: to support indigent students with their education and impoverished families in conformity of relieving impoverished people.

Institution: establishing office and Council within the Association; the Council consists of 17 members, of which, 1 director, 1 deputy director, 1 secretary-general, 1 deputy secretary-general; Secretary-general office, Raise Funds Team, Assistance Team, Exterior Communication Team;  and Financial Affairs Team have been established underneath.
